1983 to Today
Our Story
Rupam Sarees was born in 1983 — not in a grand showroom, but in a modest 100 square foot shop, built on determination and a deep love for fabric.
Our founder showed up every single day. Rain or shine, early mornings or late nights, the shop was always open. His goal was simple: every customer who walked in should leave satisfied. Repeated day after day for decades, that became the soul of Rupam Sarees.
Word spread. Trust grew. And so did the shop. When Facebook opened up a world beyond Chennai, customers across India discovered us, then buyers from the UK, the US and the Middle East — people who had never visited Chennai but trusted the fabric they saw on a screen. Instagram brought us closer to designers, tailors and fabric lovers who understood what we stand for.

What You Will Find On Our Shelves
Walk into Rupam Sarees and you are looking at fabric sold the way it should be sold: by the meter, off the roll, with the whole width open in front of you. We stock silks, georgettes, chiffons, organzas, velvets, net, satin and raw silk, alongside embroidered and sequinned yardage for bridal work. Our plain matching wall carries hundreds of shades so a blouse, a lehenga lining or a dupatta can be matched exactly rather than approximately. Tailors and boutique owners come to us because the shade they matched last season is still on the wall this season.
Buying From Rupam Sarees Outside Chennai
Not everyone can reach Mint Street, so we brought Mint Street to them. Send us a message on WhatsApp with the shade, the fabric type or a photograph of what you are trying to match, and our team will send back real photographs and video of the actual roll under natural light, along with the price per meter. We cut, pack and ship anywhere in India and to customers in the UK, the US and the Middle East. It is the same conversation you would have across our counter, only over a screen.
